The successor to the Viking game Hnefatafl, which dates back over 1,000 years, Hnefafjäll has shaken up the traditional gameplay and turned it on its head thanks to its pyramid-shaped, mountain-like board, bringing with it new, more challenging rules of engagement.
New format, even more fun

Materials such as wood and resin allow two styles of manufacturing materials to be combined into a single piece of work for everyone’s enjoyment.
Each game is unique, as it is crafted from natural and quality materials. No two games are exactly alike, which lends a unique authenticity to each of the boards and game pieces.
Take the pieces, place them on the board and connect them magnetically.
Victory is your goal
Just as in Hnefatafl, the game revolves around two opposing forces: one defending Viking force with a king who must be protected and successfully escape the battle, and the other attacking Viking force seeking victory by encircling and capturing the king on the battlefield.
However, now in Hnefafjäll, the attacking Viking Force can alternatively claim victory by taking possession of the mountain by reaching its peak and usurping the king of the mountain without needing to capture him!
The king reigns. Now, the traditional levelled battlefield is a thing of the past, as Hnefafjäll brings the mountain into play!

The game
Hnefafjäll: an innovative variation on the classic board game Hnefatafl
With Hnefafjäll, the traditional level game boards we have known for so long in Hnefatafl are now a thing of the past, as Hnefafjäll brings the mountain into play.
The game board
The introduction of the mountain in Hnefafjäll has literally changed the rules of engagement between the two Viking opponents, as the game pieces do not move as they traditionally would in Hnefatafl. Different heights on the mountain mean the pieces can no longer move as freely as they wish from one square above or below another.
From now on, pieces can only move one square up or down the mountain, whilst they can move as far as they like along the side of the mountain up to the corner square where they can then choose to descend one square more down to an inferior level. The pieces cannot make any moves that would result in them performing a right or left turn, meaning they are unable to go all the way round the mountain on the same level, therefore similarly to the rules in Hnefatafl, the pieces can only move in one straight direction.
These new elements add a level of complexity for Hnefatafl players and all board game enthusiasts alike.
Achieving Victory
-The Defenders must:
Have the king reach one of the four corners of the board.
Eliminate all the Attackers.
-The Attackers must:
Surround the king so that he cannot make any moves.
Reach the summit of the mountain.
